Please Click HERE to watch a youtube video on saving sea turtles with wildlife friendly lighting from The Sea Turtle Conservancy of Florida.
When a sea turtle hatchling sees a white, unshielded light on the beach, the light will often disrupt its natural sea finding behavior and the turtle will crawl toward the light instead of the ocean. A hatchling or adult sea turtle can also become confused by artificial light and become exhausted or dehydrated on the beach. However, beachfront lights that use long wavelength light (red or amber), shielded fixtures and lowered mounting heights are not easily detected by sea turtles.
